The FIDE World Blitz and Rapid Chess Championship 2014 take place yesterday on 16th June, 2014 in Dubai, the most populous city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) featuring the strongest chess players in the world vying for the prize fund of $400,000. The events is Swiss-system tournaments. The Rapid Championship games consist of 15 rounds scheduled for 16th, 17th and 18th June. Each player will have 15 minutes + 10 seconds additional time per move, starting from move 1 while the Blitz championship follows with 21 rounds starting on 19th and 20th , each player will have 3 minutes + 2 seconds additional time per move, starting from move 1. The Top 10 players present at the event are the reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen, Levon Aronian, Alexander Grischuk, Viswanathan Anand, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, Sergey Karjakin and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Svidler Peter and Boris Gelfand.
