Sultan Khan Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament | Lahore


Mir malik Sultan Khan (1905-1966)

The Chess Federation of Pakistan in collaboration with Lahore Chess Association is organising Sultan Khan Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament at Lahore on 28th February in honour of the chess legend Malik Mir Sultan Khan (1905-1966). Sultan Khan who was born in Punjab, British India (a small town near Sargodha) was the strongest Chess expert in Asia during his time. He won the Commonwealth Chess Championship in 1929, 1932 and 1933 during his stay in Europe. He also represented England three times at the World Chess Olympiads where an outstanding result was had. One of his notable game was his win against world Chess legend José Raúl Capablanca at Hastings 1930-31. He came third at Hastings with five wins, two draws, and two losses behind Max Euwe and José R. Capablanca.
